A Winning History

For over 70 years, Polynt has been active in the production, sales, research and development of organic anhydrides and their derivatives.

1955

Opening of FTALITAL complex, mainly dedicated to the production of Phthalic Anhydride used for synthetic materials.

1965

Alusuisse S.A. acquires FTALITAL.

1975

Over the mid-70's, the company (renamed Lonza S.p.A.) expands its production capacity through acquisitions and construction of new industrial sites.

1979

Acquisition of Distillerie Italiane S.p.A.

1980

Over the '80s the company continues to grow through acquisitions.

1990

Opening of the Maleic Anhydride plant in Ravenna.

1999

Lonza Group separates from Alusuisse and listed on the Zurich Stock Exchange.

2001-2005

  • 2001: acquisition of two Lonza companies based in Miehlen, Germany

  • 2003: merger with two Lonza Group companies based in Italy

  • Opening of the Polish site

2006

Polynt listing on the Milan Stock Exchange.

2007

  • Acquisition of a Trimellitic Anhydride production site in China

  • Acquisition of Chemial IT+UK

2008

  • Investindustrial takes Polynt private

  • Completion of a new plant in Poland, producing Composites

  • Acquisition of Chemial plants in Italy and UK from 3i

2011

Acquisition of Composites and Coating Resins business of Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. in USA by PCCR, a Polynt Group company.

2012-2013

Trading companies in France (2012) and Spain (2013) started operations.

2014

Acquisition of CCP Composites from Total.

2017

Combination with Reichhold.

2021

Black Diamond Capital Management became the Company’s controlling shareholder.

2024

Acquisition of Polyprocess (Gelcoats, France).

Managing Board

Chairman & Group CEO

Rosario Valido

Rosario Valido obtained a commercial diploma in 1971 and subsequently attended Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan for two years.

He began his professional career in the resins commercial sector at Società Italiana Resine and later at SNIAL, where he also held the position of Commercial Director for both the Italian and international markets.

In 1982, he joined Alusuisse, where he held various managerial positions. During his career, he also served as Plant Director for the San Giovanni Valdarno site, General Manager for several product lines, Chairman of the Compounds Company Association in Italy and Germany, and President of the European Composites Association.

From 2000 to 2007, he was a member of the Managing Board of Lonza Group A.G. He currently serves as Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of the entire Group.

Group CFO

Paolo Carugati

Paolo Carugati obtained a degree in Economic and Banking Sciences from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan in 1992.

He began his career as an auditor at KPMG in Italy and Germany, subsequently holding the role of Strategic Planning Manager for Pirelli Pneumatici.

He then took on the roles of Mergers & Acquisitions Manager and, subsequently, Country Manager Poland for Manuli Rubber Industries, which promoted him to Chief Financial Officer in 2000.

Mr. Carugati joined the Polynt Group in July 2006, immediately assuming the role of Chief Financial Officer.

Group COO

Sergio Conni

Sergio Conni graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 1987.

He began his career in senior roles at SISAS Group and Chemial Group. He joined the Polynt Group in 2009 following the acquisition of the Chemial Group.

Since then, he has held several prominent roles within the Company, both in operations and business management. From 2014 to 2017, he served as Senior Vice President Americas, reporting directly to the CEO.

He then returned to Italy, where he held the role of EVP Europe until July 2020, when he assumed the role of Group COO.

Group General Counsel & Director HR & IT

Alberto Carpani

Alberto Carpani graduated in Law from the Università Statale Milano-Bicocca in 1999 and has been qualified as a lawyer at the Milan Court of Appeal since 2006.

He practised at leading international law firms, including Simmons & Simmons, White & Case and Chiomenti.

Between 2008 and 2009, he served as International Visiting Attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York, USA.

He joined the Group in October 2017 as Group General Counsel and, since September 2020, has also held the position of Group Director HR & IT.

Simona Grilli

Simona Grilli obtained her diploma in Tourism and Foreign Languages in Milan in 1988.

She immediately began her professional career at Alusuisse Italia in the customer service and logistics area, subsequently holding the role of Assistant to the Commercial Director.

Since 2000, she has been Assistant to the Chairman and CEO of the Group and the Managing Board.

Since 2007, she has also held the role of Communication Manager and coordinates the activities of General Services.

EVP EMEA

Maurizio Leonardi

Maurizio Leonardi graduated in Chemistry from the University of Perugia in 1983.

He began his career as a researcher at the same university and subsequently worked for the hi-tech division of ENICHEM and as Project Manager for Nestlé.

He joined the Group in 1988, holding various roles in R&D and Operations.

In 2015, he assumed the role of COO Composites Europe. From 2020, he held the position of Group EVP Europe, and since 2026 he has been serving as Group EVP EMEA.

EVP Americas

Alessandro Verde

Alessandro obtained his commercial diploma in 1986 and completed his specialisation in Marketing at SDA Bocconi in Milan in 1990.

He began his career in 1988 as a Purchasing and Logistics Assistant at Alusuisse. He then held the role of International Sales Manager and, over time, filled various managerial positions in the chemical industry.

He served as Commercial Director of Chemial and, following its acquisition by Polynt, became General Manager of Polynt UK.

In 2011, he relocated to the United States, where he held several positions in corporate management. From 2018 to 2024, he served as Supply Chain Manager Americas.

In May 2025, Alessandro was appointed EVP Americas.

Group Supply Chain Director

Luca Bielli

Following technical studies in accounting and IT and a degree in Business Economics, he began his professional career at the company in 1990 in the Intermediates sales sector.

He progressively held various commercial and leadership roles, becoming Business Line Director in 2004 for the Anhydrides and Plasticisers sector.

In 2012, he became Head of the Plasticisers Division and, in 2017, after 27 years of service, he left the company to join Sun Chemical Italia.

There, he held the role of Business Director for Liquid Inks, Offset Inks and Printed Circuit Boards for four years.

In September 2021, he rejoined Polynt as Group Supply Chain Director at the Scanzorosciate headquarters.
