Composites

Composites

Composite materials have the following characteristics:

  • they consist of two or more materials of different kinds;
  • almost two of these materials have different physical properties «sufficiently» different from one another,  to impart different properties to the composite from those of the constituents.

To obtain a composite with high mechanical resistance is essential, in addition to the use of fiber-resistant, ensuring good adhesion between the matrix and the reinforcement.

The reinforcements used in polymer matrix composites are glass, carbon and fibers.

There are several production process of composite materials . The most popular are:

  1. manual drafting
  2. resin transfer molding (RTM)
  3. filament winding
  4. pultrusion
  5. vacuum infusion
  6. centrifugal casting
  7. Closed molding compounds process
  8. autoclave molding
