SMC BMC Design Award 2026 – Finalists announced, Ceremony at JEC World in Paris
Earlier this month the Jury of the SMC BMC Design Award 2026 selected the finalists out of all submitted projects. The winners will come to the Award Ceremony at JEC World 2026 in Paris on March 11 to present their designs and receive a nice price.
The SMC BMC Design Award 2026 is already the 5th edition of the European design competition that recognizes and promotes design excellence in SMC and BMC. This year’s theme is “Live Better, Live Green” – SMC solutions for improving Quality of Life.
SMC and BMC are composite materials ideal for making light, and intricate parts that combine structural performance with a smooth surface finish. For that reason, SMC and BMC are increasingly used in a broad range of end-use applications and markets.
Experienced Jury
The Jury for this year’s edition consisted of Joan Montobbio (Chairman, SMC BMC Alliance, Menzolit), Éric Pierrejean (JEC), Joachim Froment (Futurewave), and Andrea Rati (Politecnico di Milano). Overall, the Jury was very happy with the quality of the submitted projects and is looking forward to meeting the finalists at the Award ceremony in Paris.

Meet the finalists at JEC World 2026 in Paris
During the award ceremony, the finalists will present their projects to the composites professional community present at the show. After that, Joan Montobbio, Chairman of the Jury will hand over the prices to the winners.
The selected finalists are:
- Dave Rook (TU Delft, Netherlands) – Domum Shelter
- Lucía Bonmatí, Bernat Rucabado (Elisava Barcelona, Spain) – Hedera
- Bárbara Quelhas, Zohar Saar (ESAD Oporto, Portugal) – GROWi

SMC BMC Design Award
The SMC BMC Design Award 2026 is open for Design students and Young Design Professionals (less than 3 years of experience) living in Europe. Innovations entered into the SMC BMC Design Award have been judged by an independent Jury with expert members from both the Design community and the Composites industry.
The Award has some interesting prices to win: total amount is €17.500, including a Gold Award (€7.500 in cash and €7.500 in coaching), Silver Award (€1.500), and Bronze Award (€1.000).
European Alliance for SMC BMC
The European Alliance for SMC BMC is an industry association of European companies involved in SMC and BMC technology, promoting the benefits of SMC BMC composite solutions through:
- Connecting key stakeholders in the supply chain
- Providing details on typical end-uses
- Explaining the features and associated benefits
- Making available design information to engineers and designers
- Facilitating the information exchange at selected events
